About Irene
“Reach high, for stars lie hidden in your soul. Dream deep, for every dream precedes a goal.”

Irene Sulaiman was born in Jakarta, Indonesia in 1981. She is the youngest of two children, and she currently resides in Lawrence, Kansas. Her older brother, Johan, just got married in July 2007 and now lives in California with his wife. In 1998, her parents decided to send her to the United States for school. A lifetime opportunity she always appreciates, considering only less than 1% of Indonesians are fortunate enough to pursue their education in the United States.
Irene’s parents have their own mission: to make their children global people and equip them with the education and skills so that they can survive wherever they are. She was first sent to the Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona. Irene transferred to the University of Arizona after her first semester at Pima.
Despite the new environment, people, language, and culture, Irene loved the fact that she was learning new things. Being out of her comfort zone and a million miles away from her parents and friends did not discourage her from enjoying the learning experience. She fitted right in to the new school, the community, and the Arizona weather.
After graduating from the University of Arizona in 2002, she continued her study in law. This decision turned out to be one of the best decisions she had ever made in her life. She loved law school and felt just right where she needed to be. Her first year of law school was a struggle, but she herself was surprised that she never really stressed out about it, let alone regretted the decision to go to law school.
During her second and third year of law school, she adjusted well and began to realize how much she loved statutory law. These are some of the areas of law that Irene would like to deepen her knowledge and practice into: Contracts, Commercial Law, Bankruptcy Law, and International Law. For her, studying law is like discovering a new passion that never grows old.
Now that she has graduated from law school, she realizes what kind of an impact an attorney could make in someone’s life. She believes that everything happens for a reason, and by performing her role properly in the society, she looks forward to taking a part in making the world a better place.
